Chapter 13

Knock, knock, knock. Nikki was lying on her couch watching TV when she heard someone knocking on her door. She knew it was Ayesha, she had just got off the phone with her fifteen minutes ago. Nikki went and opened the door. Ayesha was crying which immediately upset Nikki. She knew this had something to do with Rahiem. Nikki use to like Rahiem, but she knew he would change after spending all that time in prison. Nikki wanted her friend happy and hoped that Rahiem would straighten up his act.

“What’s wrong girl?” Nikki asked while they walked over to the couch. Nikki turned the TV down, so that she could give Ayesha her undivided attention.

Ayesha broke down and told Nikki everything about Ann and how Raheem gave her Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. Nikki’s mouth dropped open as she was in awe of everything going on in Ayesha’s relationship.

Rahiem texted and called Ayesha numerous times and she ignored him every time. She refused to talk to him right now. She felt as if the ten years that he was incarcerated changed him. She missed the Rahiem that was there for her when her mother wasn’t. She missed the Rahiem that would love her unconditionally and would never think about breaking her heart. She didn’t know who the present day Rahiem was.

Nikki snapped Ayesha out of her thoughts.

“Girl, you gonna call him?”

Ayesha didn’t hear anything that Nikki just said. “Call who girl?”

“You know, dude from the club?” Nikki said while smiling.

Ayesha contemplated for a minute. She thought that it would be ok to at least talk to him. “If Rahiem can do it then so can I.” she told Nikki.

Ayesha reached in her purse and pulled out her cell phone. She scrolled down her contact list until she came to his name, Mike.

She pressed send on her key pad. The phone began to ring. She was about to hang up when his smooth deep baritone voice came through the speaker.

“Hello.”

“May I speak with Mike please?”

“This is him. Who’s callin?

Ayesha informed him of who she was and he remembered her. He had been waiting on her call.

“What’s up baby girl? I thought you forgot about me.”

They talked for a while and he had even asked her out. She was hesitant to agree but then she thought about Rahiem’s betrayal.

“Sure, we can do that. Where and when do you want to go?”

They set up a date for the next day and decided to go see The Best Man Holiday. They talked for a few more minutes before hanging up.

“Girl I am so happy that you are at least exploring other options.” Nikki told Ayesha.

“I know girl, I can’t believe I am going out with another guy.”

Nikki and Ayesha talked for a little while longer. Ayesha decided not to go home that night. She didn’t want to be around Rahiem. If she was going to be with him, she couldn’t be so easy and let him think that he could treat her any kind of way.
